Maintain a Healthy Weight During Pregnancy

11.18.08 | Comment?

It is a general feeling out there among pregnant women that there is nothing that you can do to maintain a healthy weight during pregnancy and avoid too much weight gain. This train of thought often leads pregnant women to indulge in their cravings, stop exercising and use pregnancy as an excuse to eat whatever and however much they want. Now it’s important to stress that pregnancy is certainly not the time to go on a diet, as restricting food intake can be hazardous for both you and your developing baby. What we are concerned with is avoiding excessive weight gain or more specifically keeping your weight gain to a healthy and attractive minimum.

There are so many aggravating issues associated with weight gain and pregnancy. Not only can it be a particularly stressful and emotional time, but problems such as sagging breasts, stretch marks, cellulite and acne are common side effects. In fact too much weight gain can be potentially dangerous for you, not to mention once the baby is born the excessive weight is very hard to lose.

So is it safe to maintain a healthy weight during pregnancy?

In one word, yes! Eating right and undertaking regular exercise will help to keep the excess pounds off, and ultimately get you looking great and having tons of energy (that you otherwise would not have) during your pregnancy. Furthermore an exercise and diet program will ensure that you gain the weight slowly and lose it quickly and be free of those common aches and pains. It will also ensure that you put less stress on your skin, greatly reducing the occurrence of stretch marks, sagging breasts, and cellulite and will make your labour easier.

There is definitely no need for you to go through your pregnancy feeling overweight, unattractive and lacking energy. There are programs out there that are very effective and safe.
